The Sea Pines Racquet Club is home of the former U.S. Open and Wimbledon champion Stan Smith, who is the director of the tennis program and even offers his own class each fall at the racquet club. His class is called the “Stan Smith Series” and is a 9-hour class that includes, “video analysis of your serve, stroke and strategy instruction, footwork and many practice drills.” This year’s class will be offered on two different weekends: September 16-18 and November 24-26. Stan Smith’s class is only one of several different programs offered at the Sea Pines Racquet Club. The programs are divided into categories based on age and skill level. Here’s a quick look at the different programs (get all of the details here):

Programs for adults

AdultTennis 101: This course is designed to teach those ages 16 and older the basics of tennis – or reintroduce adults to the sport who haven’t played in a while. The course is designed to be a week long, with a different hour-long class Monday-Friday.

Pickleball 101: Want to learn how to play pickleball – or just want some formal instruction if you’re new to the sport? Learn the basics with Pickleball 101, including Rules, scoring, court positioning and basic strategies. Sign up for a single hour-long class or a full week! Class is for those 16 and older only.

Weekend Workout: Trying to make sure you stay in top shape and don’t lose your skills? Join Sea Pines
Racquet Club’s Weekend Workouts! Intended for intermediate to advanced players, this instructional program is designed to strengthen strokes and tactics in your doubles game. Ages 17 and up, only.

Advanced Adults (4.0+): Designed for those 17+ with a higher skill level, the Advanced Adults class combines advanced shot-making instruction with fast-paced drills.

Stroke & Drills program: Need a little help learning the fundamentals? The Stroke & Drills class breaks down each stroke into simple steps, including grip, footwork, preparation, contact and finish. Ages 17 and older.

The Sea Pines Resort Round Robin: Take to the courts for a fun, social round robin. Includes Gatorade during the competition, prizes for the winners and social following play. Only for ages 21 +.

Competitive Round Robin: For advanced players seeking a serious game. Includes Gatorade during the competition, prizes for the winners and social following play. Ages 21 and older.

Programs for Youth

Little Tennis: Introduce the little ones to tennis in this course. There are two age groups: Tiny tots (ages 4-6) and Big shots (ages 7-8). The focus is on developing hand-eye coordination, basic stroke skills, footwork, fair play and so on. Our patient pros do their best to make the first impression of the sport a most positive one!

Junior Orange Ball: Designed for ages 9-10, this course is meant to prepare youth for an orange ball tournament. Focus of this program will include technique development as well as point play and games.

Junior Tennis 101: This course will teach the fundamentals of tennis to youth ages 9-15. Each stroke is
broken down into easy-to-understand steps for fast success. Drills emphasize the newly acquired skills, and games add to the excitement. Balls used are Orange and Green.

Intermediate Juniors: For intermediate youth up to high school players, this course is designed to give players the key to achieve a higher level of play. Each day features a different topic designed to elevate students to the next level. Skills include spins, footwork, strategies and tactics. Ages 11-16.

Smith Stearns Tennis Academy: For the kids that either have their eye on summer Nationals, a college tennis scholarship or even playing in the pros, the Smith Stearns Hilton Head Tennis Academy is what their dreams are made of. Led by Stan Smith, former number-one player in the world and B.J. Stearns, former top nationally and internationally ranked player and Academy Director, the Smith Stearns Tennis Academy is uniquely designed for individual junior player development.

The Academy can be attended summer camp style with a variety of different courses, or youth can go full-time and attend afternoon classes Monday-Friday year-round. Learn more here.
